So, this just popped up on my local craigslist. '92 850i 6-speed with 134k miles, for $11,995. The listing claims, "We just spent over $3000+ in fresh service including new suspension, new batteries, tune-up service and so much more so you don't have to."

Ehh, who knows. So far my experience with 2-ton larger-displacement NA BMWs has not yet made me want to pull the trigger.

How heavy are Z8s?
You should get a Z8.
A Z8 would be nice.

What the fuck died in the drivers side foot well? Other than that, OMFG, I love me some 850i!

Sell my GTI before it depreciates any further. Buy this. Keep spare money for future (inevitable) problems.

I think it looks like that because there's a leather pad sewn into the carpet down there, which is partially covered by some kind of plastic wrap with writing on it.

Such a fantastic car.
V12 and a stick is epic. I kind of wish they had given the 840 a bit more attention, and offered it with a stick. IIRC, all 840 V8s were automatics, only the 850i and 850CSi had the option for a manual gearbox.
But for as buttery-smooth as a V12 is, it is complex, and heavy. An 840 would have been epic with an E39 M5's motorsport V8 an 6-speed manual.
As much as I love these... I can imagine horror stories about an expensive, old, out of production, WAY out of warranty BMW E31's maintenance or repairs. The ad even mentions just having spent 3 grand on maintenance...
One of the reasons why I would almost rather have a more wallet-freindly Mark III Toyota Supra... most of the looks, for a lot less money to upkeep... and still smooth with an inline 6, and manual gearbox availability.

Those rear seats look uncomfortably deeply scalloped (they are probably very comfortable)!

No idea. I wouldn't say it was a POS, but it probably needs some steering and clutch work.
